3D Studio Max Tasks

Fruit Bowl:

This proved to be a little more tricky to create, a new feature called meshsmooth made everything appear smoother when edited. The bowl is a sphere that has had the top pushed down in on itself to create a space for fruit to fit in. The apple is a sphere that has been morphed to look more like an apple, apples are not completly round. The banana was definiatly the hardest part, it is a rectangle that has been meshsmoothed to round of the edges, then edited to mkae it more curvy. The stalks in the apples and bananas are cones that have been bent a little and placed in the center of the fruit.

Snowman:

The snowman was a little harder to create and a few new techniques were introduced. the head and the body of the snowman are just simple spheres, these spheres have been named which makes them easier to locate and edit depending on the number of layers. The eyes too are small spheres and the nose is a cone. The hat is made up of two small cylinders that have been grouped together to make the object one.
The snow is a selected weather condition that is preset in the 3D studio max package.

Castle:

This is the first time i have used 3d studio max, and already learnt quite a lot. There are many different tools and shapes available such as cylinders and cones that can be put together to, in this case to make a castle. There are also some pre made shapes such as doors, windows, stairs and trees. The four windows make everything much easier to move around in order to align shapes properly.

Reaction to Brief and Ideas

When first reading the brief I have to admit that I thought it sounded like a fantastic idea to create a 30 second trailer for a James bond film and many ideas of my own where popping into my head. When I was younger I used to be a James bond fan so I was recalling all of the films that I had seen and all of the key moments that people always remember in the James bond series.

For example the classic bond villain who has the white cat, everyone remembers that villain just because of the cat. Another key villain is of course goldfinger with the classic line of “do you expect me to talk”, “No Mr bond I expect you to die”.

Another thing I would love to create is the Aston Martin from the movie goldfinger which is probably my favourite bond car.

After these ideas fermented in my head I then started thinking of the complexity of the task. I have wanted to do 3D animation for a long time and am looking forward to the challenge of creating a 3D trailer but must admit a little nervous based upon my current range of skills.

Goldfinger: as previously stated a few ideas have already come to light including the aston martin and the scene involving james bond and goldfinger. another villian from the same movie that is quite well known is oddjob, the man that kills people with his hat. together these three key elements could make an excellent movie trailer.
you only live twice: This james bond film also contains a few key elments that people will always remember such as james bond being killed off right at the begining of the film, only to find out it was a plan all along. James bond learning to become a ninja is also quite a memorable moment, but the most memorable moment for me is the classic bond villian with the cat.
